JANUARY 29, 2020

PLANNED PARENTHOOD – 2:30 p.m.

Sway and I had passed all our tests and were perfectly healthy. After congratulations and a brief consultation, we were out.

GOLD TOWN CABARET – 3:06 p.m.

We’d ordered and were eating lunch when Sarah and Natalia came over to our table. Sway was enjoying a chicken salad, and I was face down in a double burger with fries.

Sarah had just tucked away six forties she’d scored from Sway when suddenly, all our attention was grabbed.

As if shot out of a cannon, James came running through the double doors of the VIP. He was leaned over, ducking, protecting himself from Robbie’s flailing roundhouses.

She was quickly snatched off her feet by Romero, which sent her into overload.

She threatened, pointing to everyone in the room. “I’m telling on all you motherfuckers! When I’m through, vice is going to shut this whole fucking club down! Believe that!” She tussled, scratched, clawed, and was gnawing and biting like a mad woman as she was dragged away.

“What the fuck? I thought that bitch was fired.”

Sarah turned to me. “She was. They let her come back today.”

“How fucking stupid was that? Now we’re all… I’m out.” I tossed two twenties onto the table and grabbed Sway’s hand. We headed quickly to the car.

My paranoia was already kicking in as I backed out of the parking spot. “Andre, do you think she’s serious?”

“Yes.”

“She really would do that?”

“Yes.”

“But this is one of your best spots…”

“It was one of my best spots. We’ve just lost about sixteen thousand dollars a year, Sway.”

HOME – 3:30 p.m.

We were in bed, relaxed and watching TV. Sway was snuggled and had made a few passes, but I’d pretended I was asleep.

From the corners of my eyes, I’d peeked and observed as she moved about the room. I’d almost laughed aloud when she’d angrily cursed at herself after spilling some soda from her cup onto the front of her shirt.

HOME – 5:45 p.m.

We were both awakened by my text alert. “Is everything okay, baby?”

“Yeah, that was just Dan. I’m going to hook up with him in a couple hours.”

“Are you hungry? We have plenty of food left… I can heat something for you. It won’t take me long.”

“You would do that?”

Sway sprang from the bed and darted to the bathroom. She peed, brushed her teeth, and washed up before hurrying to the kitchen.

She’d made me a plate and was pouring me a tall glass of iced tea when I took my seat. “I wanted some of that dick, but you went to sleep on me.”

“I’m sorry… I don’t know what the fuck came over me. I guess I was really tired…”

She glanced at the clock on the microwave. “Do you have time?”

“Right now? I don’t want to get started because I know I’m not going to want to stop. We need that money too…especially after what happened today, you know?”

“That’s alright, I’ll have you all to myself later on tonight.”

“You know you will.”

CHEVRON – NORTHWEST HWY – 10:10 p.m.

I began to think about Sway and how I played her off the way I did. But my plan needed to work flawlessly. I had to avoid her advances until tomorrow. Tomorrow was going to be our day. A day that we would remember for the rest of our lives.

I was snatched from my thoughts by the loud music and the roar of that Ferrari.

I stepped out and walked to his side. Dan was smiling as usual. I dropped the hundred bag into his palm. He slid me the rolled bill. “It must be nice to live like you do.”

He beamed. “Andre, I’m not going to bullshit and lie to you, brother. It is nice being me.”

“So you’re not going to tell me how money isn’t everything and that true happiness comes from within?”

“Only a rich person with guilt would try and sell that to someone. I have none, Andre… And I’m sure my family has a dark past. No offense to you…and please don’t take it to heart, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they’d made money off your people. But again, I have no guilt.”

“I admire your truth, though.”

“My truth, your truth. Truth is truth, brother. This is a capitalist society, Andre. That’s the truth. That’s what it’s all about. This is America. We’re all capitalists. It’s the only way we achieve wealth.”

“I’m not sure I agree with all that, Dan. I have a conscience. I would actually feel guilt.”

“Andre…”

“What?”

“Andre.”

“What, Dan?”

“You’re capitalizing off me, brother. Do you have any guilt on your conscience or a soft spot in your heart for my addiction? Think about it.” Dan chuckled wildly as he paddled into first gear. He sped away, smoking his tires as he approached the curb. He looked back. “You’re coming up, brother. I believe in you.”

HOME – 6:10 p.m.

I could hear Sway singing to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer” as I placed my key card into the slot. She quickly turned. “Hey, baby!” With the big spoon in hand, she danced towards me, placing a kiss to my lips. “The food is done. Are you hungry?”

“I can’t wait. I could smell the seasonings all the way down the hall as soon as I got off the elevator.” I peeked into the open skillet. “It looks good, too.”

“Go wash up. I’ll have everything ready for you.”

Sway had her new clothes all laid out. She’d removed the tags on some and had reorganized the closet. I noticed a nice, classy black dress hanging towards the front.

I walked into the bathroom to take a quick piss, but as if punched in the gut, I began to cramp. It was sudden and unrelenting. There was no way I was going to be able to hold it.

I’d thought about who would eventually be the first to go. I definitely wanted it to be her.

As if in a jailhouse, I’d flushed between each piece, followed with a blast of Febreze, Linen and Sky.

I then removed my clothes and took a long, hot shower.

The room was chilly when I came out. Sway had opened the windows to the edges of the frames. A sickening, embarrassing feeling had come over me.

After applying a quick coat of lotion, I grabbed some sweats and a shirt and took a seat at the kitchenette table. “There’s my sexy daddy. How did you do out there today?” She set a plate of pasta in front of me. “Is that enough?”

“Yeah, that’s plenty… You’re not going to believe who I ran into.”

“Who?”

Sway held the steaming pan, spooning meatballs and sauce onto the pile. “Whoa… That’s good.” I took my fork and mixed some together before giving it a taste. “Wow, this is fucking delicious. I thought I was going to need to add some salt or something.” I carved a meatball into four. “Oh shit! This is unbelievable, Sway! You’re a fantastic cook!”

She bounced happily. “I love cooking too.”

“By the way, that’s a bad ass dress.”

“You like it? It was on sale. I just got it in case we go somewhere.”

“Your timing is perfect…”

“Perfect…?”

“So, I did my thing with Dan, and as I was about to leave, who pulls up? Mandy.”

“Mandy?!”

“She’s in a bad way. Rosebud came down hard on her. She’s all fucked up. And he’s picking up his money between each trick. He’s not letting her hold shit.

“She came to me trying to hit me up for a bump.”

“Did you give her one?”

“I gave her the two forties I had.”

“You gave them to her?”

“She owes me… I wasn’t supposed to have extra with me anyway. Not when I meet up with Dan. I figured fuck it. I’ll probably never see that money, though.”

“You felt sorry for her or something?”

“No… As long as she owes me, we probably won’t have to deal with her.” I wolfed down another mouthful. “Enough about Mandy.”

LONGHORN ICEHOUSE PARKING LOT – 8:48 p.m.

Solo drove up with her lights off. She exited, heading towards our passenger side. After noticing Sway, she stutter-stepped, changing her direction. I lowered my window. “Andre, I see you got your girlfriend with you again.” She looked across to Sway. “Hey, gorgeous.”

“Hello.”

Solo swapped three single hundreds for three bigs. “Thanks.” I handed the bills to Sway.

“I may call you later if you’re up. They may want some more. It’ll be around three or four, but it’s not for sure, though.”

“Text me… We’ll go from there.”

She looked to Sway and then to me. “I’m entertaining a married couple. They’re paying big money, Andre, at least a couple thousand. Sway’s welcome to come. She won’t even have to get down. I’ll do all the work.”

Sway cut in. “I’m good. I appreciate it, though.”

“Alright, let me know. I got to get going.” Solo hurried to her car and sped away.”

As we drove, I sensed something was on Sway’s mind. “What’s up?”

“How well do you know Solo?”

“I’ve been dealing with her a few years now. Why?”

“Bitch is so disrespectful.”

“How? What did she do?”

“She has a pimp, right?”

“Yeah. Lee. Her, Brook, and Roxanne are all with Lee. They buy from me, too. You’ll meet them.”

“You really are just a dope boy… Not a fuck boy either.”

“Where are you going with this?”

“It’s all good.” She reached over, placing her hand on my arm. She looked to me. “This is why I love you so much.”

“Alright…but what are you saying?”

“This is the second time she’s tried to pull me.”

“She’s not trying to pull you. She’s just in her mind, trying to make me some extra money…”

“No, baby, these ho’s are not your friends. All they want to do is impress their pimp. It’s the hos that are the most dangerous. They do the recruiting, the conditioning, the lying and the scheming.

“You’re true to the game. You play by the rules. The game will always be good to you… And so will I.”
